Falling on Good Ground

June 11, 2022

Only recently had the nudging of my inner spirit rousted me to make time to get back to writing again. Writing the stories of events here, or realizations about the life I live here, has always been my outlet to peacefully let go of ponderings – maybe things I cannot explain, or perhaps something new … More Falling on Good Ground

Mr. T’s Velvet Kisses

March 17, 2020

Three weeks ago on a Friday, Mr. T, our eldest Japanese Chin, decided he no longer wanted to eat. I had known for a couple of weeks that he was losing ground. In the last year, there had been many health issues for him to overcome. Last August, we opted to have the eye removed … More Mr. T’s Velvet Kisses

A Turn in the Road

April 25, 2019

I generally take to walking the animal trails through the woods when I have a bit of time to hike to the river. I’m familiar with those paths, and I have my favorite landmarks to stop at and rest or scout around a bit. But recently, FD and I took to doing a little mushroom … More A Turn in the Road

Holiday Cookies ~ A Family Tradition

December 30, 2018

Holiday sugar cookies have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was a young girl, my mom mixed dough each Christmas season, then cut the forms and baked cookies, while my siblings and I frosted and decorated. There was always competition, of course, with each of us trying … More Holiday Cookies ~ A Family Tradition

Gathering for the Good

December 6, 2018

November was difficult. I am still reeling a bit as I reflect on the last month. How can some of the hardest aspects of life, also become the most amazing and miraculous? I find myself being thankful and deeply upheld by something greater than I could ever explain. I have never experienced anything like it … More Gathering for the Good

Gathering in a Storm

April 19, 2018

Last Thursday, FD and I packed our bags and loaded up the truck for yet another trip to Nebraska. But this time, we would be dropping our three dogs off at our veterinarian’s office for boarding, as this trip to Nebraska would be keeping us much too busy to give them the attention they needed … More Gathering in a Storm

Happiness in Black and White

February 22, 2018

The ambient light of town cast a beautiful glow over the landscape as I stepped outside with Oscar at 6:00 this morning. When I focused my flashlight on the front steps, I could see a glaze of ice covering everything. Yesterday’s weather had produced a thin layer of sleet, and overnight freezing fog and drizzle … More Happiness in Black and White

Northbound to the Solar Eclipse

September 7, 2017

I hated to admit how dependent I had become on FD driving me places. Over the last seventeen years, he has done all of the driving on long trips. And I could only think of a couple of times where I drove a few hours to relieve him. Thinking back, the longest journey I have … More Northbound to the Solar Eclipse

The Universe Conspires

September 7, 2017

Earlier this year my friend Lynda, from Life on the Farmlet, approached me about the possibility of her driving from Alabama to meet me here, and then going on north to Nebraska together to view the solar eclipse. The center line of the pathway of totality was indicated to run very near the town my … More The Universe Conspires

Surrendering to the Flow of Life

April 22, 2017

I have found myself tired and weary lately, mostly having set the bar way too high with expectations of myself for the work to be done on Ten-Acre Ranch. Mowing and gardening has started early this year – about a month ahead of schedule. Acquiring fifty-two acres of an adjoining pecan orchard last fall added … More Surrendering to the Flow of Life

When Push Comes to Shove…

April 21, 2017

Back in 2002 when Forrest and I were in our second year of marriage, we decided to bring my dad’s 1953 Chevy Deluxe to Oklahoma so that we could give her some much-needed attention. Old Blue could still crank up and run back then, but she needed an overhaul for sure. I was quite proud … More When Push Comes to Shove…

Daisy has been the greatest teacher of my life. If ever there was a time to sit patiently for nothing in particular, and just enjoy the simplicity of the moment, it has been sitting or laying near her. Some of my best photography is attributed to her alertness (thus warning me of something in our midst), or simply resting and allowing a subject to come forth.

These ten baby opossums are in great shape, thanks to their mother. Apparently the mother opossum was looking for food and ventured to a back yard where a dog killed her. Wildcare of Oklahoma will be raising these little ones until they can manage on their own.
